CONTEXT
A new product category from the ground up
VIVE Eagle AI Glasses is HTC’s first AI-native smart eyewear product, launched in Taiwan in September 2025 with phased rollout across Hong Kong and Japan, expanding to more regions in 2026. The open AI platform strategy is the key differentiator and we designed the primary UX paradigm connecting to multiple AI models and delivering effective AI interactions with priority on privacy and security.
DESIGN LEADERSHIP
Full design accountability for a new product category
I held full UX design ownership for Eagle AI Glasses from concept through product releases. My scope covered the UX decisions and communications in product committees to align strategies across stakeholders. Establishing the brand identity and leading teams to finalize branded visuals with executives for this new product category.
KEY DESIGN DECISIONS
Designing for a voice-first, screenless interaction model
The AI feedback and communication system
The primary design challenge was defining how the system communicates with the user when there’s no embedded screen to show interaction state responsively. Each AI model has different response latency and capability boundaries. My UX decisions prioritized the most effective outputs — voice, sound, and light — to hold the user's confidence through the conversation.
Brand identity for a new category
For HTC’s first eyewear AI product, I drove the brand discussions forward and led the decisions that took the product from concept to brand integration. We established a new extension of the design system for this product category. We designed VIVE AI and its audio-responsive feedback to give the assistant a brand identity with consistent voice and tone.
Companion app and ecosystem integration
We designed the companion mobile app to pair with Eagle’s experience, integrated phone services and defined custom settings that allow users to select the preferred AI assistant. I framed the system to hand off tasks flexibly between AI models, designing the experience around keeping the user's data private and secured on the phone.
OUTCOME
HTC’s entry into AI-native consumer products
VIVE Eagle AI Glasses launched on an open AI platform architecture that lets users choose their AI model. We envisioned a platform ecosystem that can grow with future SDK and tool integrations. Together with the brand design system we established, it set the design foundation for this new product family.
